Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, HONOURABLE became fractious and broke open the front gate of its stall. HONOURABLE was removed from its stall, inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, HONOURABLE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Shortly after the start, THE ONLY ONE was crowded for room between SUPREME STAR and MANIFEST, both of which shifted ground. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether SUPREME STAR should be declared the winner of the race and MANIFEST should be declared 2nd placegetter of the race. After viewing the available videos and after all members of the Panel had expressed their opinions, the Stewards believed this was not an appropriate case in which they should exercise their special powers under Rule 123. Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored confirming the Judge's placings. While it did not influence the decision of whether the Stewards should exercise their powers under Rule 123, it should be noted neither D Whyte nor the connections of SUPREME MOLLY, 3rd placegetter, lodged a protest/objection. After the 100 Metres, SUPREME MOLLY was checked when crowded for room between MANIFEST which shifted out slightly and SUPREME STAR which shifted in slightly. As the interference resulted from a small shift of both MANIFEST and SUPREME STAR, no action was taken. S Dye (HEKYLL N' JYDE) explained the intention had been to ride the horse with cover. He said after beginning well when three runners on his outside were hard ridden to go forward, at the 1000 Metres he elected to steady his mount and take up a trailing position behind NEWSWIRE. He said no sooner had he done this then NEWSWIRE steadied in front of him, causing HEKYLL N' JYDE to commence to over-race badly, he therefore shifted the horse to a one off position. He said after this at the 700 Metres HEKYLL N' JYDE proved very difficult to control when racing tight inside SUPREME STAR and after the 600 Metres changed stride and was unable to maintain its position. He said approaching the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight he rode HEKYLL N' JYDE along vigorously hands and heels and after the 200 Metres commenced to ride with the whip, however, HEKYLL N' JYDE did not respond, so he put the whip away and rode his mount out vigorously hands and heels to the line. The explanations submitted by S Dye were accepted. SUPREME MOLLY, SUPREME STAR and MANIFEST were sent for sampling.
