Racing Incident Report

SPIRITUAL KING, THISTLEJADE and LEAD TO WIN were slow to begin. WAIALAE WIN began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. KING OF SPADES began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, EMPEROR UNICORN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRODIGY and tight inside NEW CENTURY. MOUNT MEDIC and CLAWS OF THUNDER, which were following, were hampered in consequence. Also passing the winning post the first time, SPIRITUAL KING got its head on the side, shifted in and was checked away from the heels of DIVINE FEELING. At the 1300 Metres, EMPEROR UNICORN, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was checked when momentarily crowded for room between DIVINE FEELING and NEW CENTURY which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After straightening, EMPEROR UNICORN, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of KING OF SPADES which shifted out momentarily. After the 400 Metres, CLAWS OF THUNDER was steadied away from the heels of FAST RUNNER which shifted out. At the 200 Metres, SPIRITUAL KING was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between NEW CENTURY and OPTIC CHIEF which was racing tight outside WAIALAE WIN. Shortly after this, OPTIC CHIEF was steadied when disappointed for running between THISTLEJADE and WAIALAE WIN which shifted out slightly. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES hung in. The performance of MOUNT MEDIC, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MOUNT MEDIC will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PRODIGY and WAIALAE WIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 4 December)
MOUNT MEDIC was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning and was noted to be lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, MOUNT MEDIC will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
