Racing Incident Report
GUSCOTT began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped DIVINE FEELING. LUCKY FRIENDS, which was standing badly, was a little slow to begin. D Boeuf (DOLPHIN STAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of JADE RUYI, causing that horse to be crowded for room and lose its rightful running which in turn caused crowding on its inside to GUSCOTT. D Boeuf was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 2 February 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday 18 January 2004. After the 800 Metres, OH GREAT was momentarily crowded for room inside the heels of DOLPHIN STAR which shifted in slightly. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, OH GREAT and GUSCOTT were crowded for room inside DIVINE FEELING which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. After the 600 Metres, THE ONLY HERO got its head on the side, shifted in away from OH GREAT and brushed the running rail. After this, THE ONLY HERO was reluctant to hold its position inside OH GREAT. On straightening, PLEASANT SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of WATCH KING which shifted out after making contact with the running rail. In the Straight, JADE RUYI hung in. S Dye (WATCH KING) said the horse had on numerous occasions previously shown itself to have a bad mouth, therefore it was his intention to allow the horse to stride along and lead rather than restrain it and have the horse fight the bit. He said in the early stages PLEASANT SUCCESS travelled forward with him which meant WATCH KING was made more use of than had been intended to clear that horse. He said because WATCH KING was obliged to work hard to lead, this resulted in the race being run at a fast tempo. He said in the Straight he rode WATCH KING along hard, however, after the 100 Metres the horse's run had ended. He said in the past WATCH KING had become unbalanced when giving ground, he therefore elected to try and keep WATCH KING properly balanced and urge it to the line waving the whip at it in the right hand. GIDDY KIPPER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GIDDY KIPPER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. JADE RUYI, DOLPHIN STAR and OH GREAT were sent for sampling.
