Racing Incident Report

MY CHIEF began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. MULTIWINNING began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of DYNAMIC FUN. DASHING CHAMPION began awkwardly. FINE SOCIETY was slow to begin. From the outside gate, BOLD WINNER, which was to be ridden back in the field tonight, was immediately steadied and taken across behind runners. Near the 1200 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when close to the heels of BEARCAT. In the middle stages, BOLD WINNER proved difficult to settle. At the 600 Metres, SIROCCO was bumped by DASHING CHAMPION which momentarily shifted in. Near the 500 Metres, BOBO DUCK lost its footing and blundered. Near the 250 Metres, MY CHIEF was checked and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of BEARCAT which was giving ground. Near the 200 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION got its head on the side and hung in. F Coetzee (BEARCAT) explained when approaching the barrier during the preliminary BEARCAT was kicked by a horse and he requested the horse to be examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. This was done and in consultation it was decided BEARCAT was suitable to race. He said the horse began well and he allowed it to travel forward as is usual. He pointed out BEARCAT is a horse with a difficult mouth, therefore he always allows the horse to run along without taking hold of it. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion BEARCAT was initially reluctant to shift closer to the rail, however, he was gradually able to shift across into a two wide position outside the leader, CLASSIC MASTER, however, because of the fast pace in the early stages, the effort took its toll and BEARCAT consequently did not finish the race off. BEARCAT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of BEARCAT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BEARCAT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEARCAT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (DYNAMIC FUN) said over the 1650 Metres of tonight's race it was not able to show sufficient speed to race in the leading division. He said he shifted DYNAMIC FUN across in a midfield position, near the 1200 Metres he had the opportunity to obtain cover behind BOBO DUCK, however, because DYNAMIC FUN was pulling and had previously shown it does not appreciate racing behind runners, he elected to stay racing three wide. He said DYNAMIC FUN came under pressure passing the Rock and was struggling to hold its position. He said he became concerned near the 500 Metres when BOBO DUCK which was racing to his inside lost its footing, he therefore elected to ensure DYNAMIC FUN was properly balanced making the Home Turn. He said in the Straight DYNAMIC FUN responded only fairly when being ridden out. The explanation submitted by S Dye was accepted. DYNAMIC FUN and BOBO DUCK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DYNAMIC FUN and BOO DUCK after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. SIROCCO and MY CHIEF were sent for sampling.
