Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, PROFIT DAY reared, bumped the outside gate of its stall and began very awkwardly, resulting in W M Lai, its rider, losing his left stirrup and almost being dislodged. Shortly after the start, PROFIT DAY was then bumped by SUPER DANA which was carried out by MR PRESIDENT which in turn had been carried out by OPTIC FIT. W M Lai regained the use of his left stirrup about 100 Metres after the start, however, PROFIT DAY lost significant ground as a result of these incidents. WINNING WAYS began awkwardly and blundered. On jumping, TELECOM BABE was bumped by WIN FORTUNE which shifted in. Shortly afterwards, WIN FORTUNE was bumped by TELECOM BABE which shifted out. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, OH GREAT was crowded for room inside TELECOM BABE which was being steadied to avoid the heels of WIN FORTUNE (K C Tsang) which when hanging in was ridden along and shifting ground. K C Tsang was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and make an effort to prevent his mount shifting ground. Near the 1300 Metres, WIN FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of OPTIC FIT. Also near the 1300 Metres, PLEASANT SUCCESS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of DRAGON WIN. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, TELECOM BABE raced tight close to the heels of JUST VICTORY and inside DRAGON WIN. Making the Home Turn, WINNING WAYS became unbalanced and brushed the running rail. On straightening, PROFIT DAY was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of WINNING WAYS. Shortly after straightening, SWEETIE was steadied and shifted to the outside of TELECOM BABE to obtain clear running. For a short distance after straightening, OH GREAT was awkwardly placed and held up close to the heels of JUST VICTORY. To obtain clear running near the 250 Metres, OH GREAT shifted to the inside of JUST VICTORY and when doing so brushed OPTIC FIT which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, WINNING WAYS was steadied when disappointed for running on the outside of OPTIC FIT and inside OH GREAT which at this time had shifted in to obtain a run. For some distance after this, WINNING WAYS was held up and unable to improve. T Mundry (TELECOM BABE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse about midfield with cover. He said however because of the manner in which the race was run, he raced slightly further forward than was anticipated. JUST VICTORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, JUST VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, JUST VICTORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIN FORTUNE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WIN FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. OH GREAT and SWEETIE were sent for sampling.
