Racing Incident Report
On jumping, JOY FAY FAY stumbled, then was bumped by WHATABOB which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, WHATABOB lost ground. SOLAR EMPIRE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HELENE PILLAGING. Shortly after the start, OKEYDOKEY was momentarily crowded for room between RUN AND WIN and GENERAL KINGY. Near the 300 Metres, GOLDEN CARE was shifted to the inside of JOY FAY FAY to obtain clear running. For the major part of the race, OKEYDOKEY hung in, after the 400 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BOLD FIGHTER which commenced to give ground and after this was shifted to the inside of RUN AND WIN to obtain clear running. Also for the major part of the race, SOLAR EMPIRE hung in. D Whyte (JOLLY GAINS) said previously the horse had shown itself to over-race if ridden along to go forward. He said today from the inside barrier he allowed JOLLY GAINS to begin and travel forward at its own pace. He said he had hoped to be able to maintain cover, however, LUCKY TRIO which had been drawn to his outside did not show sufficient pace to go forward to provide him with cover and at the same time JOLLY GAINS did not have enough speed to follow SPECIAL KING PRAWN forward. He said as a result JOLLY GAINS raced without cover and the horse did not appear to appreciate this. He said over the concluding stages JOLLY GAINS stayed on only fairly. JOLLY GAINS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of JOLLY GAINS after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. SPECIAL KING PRAWN and HIGHLILLI were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted WHATABOB had sustained a laceration to the left front heel.
