Racing Incident Report

NORTHERN GOLD BALL was withdrawn on 9.4.04 on veterinary grounds (left fore suspensory ligament injury). Before being allowed to race again, NORTHERN GOLD BALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, DARWIN became fractious and broke through the front gates of its stall. The horse was quickly restrained and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said DARWIN had sustained a laceration to the right hind fetlock and in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DARWIN. Before being permitted to race again, DARWIN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. In the early stages, GREEN CHANNEL over-raced. From the 400 Metres until the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 300 Metres, GREEN CHANNEL was held up and unable to improve between HIMALAYA and BLUE STITCH. Near the 200 Metres, GREEN CHANNEL was shifted to the outside of BLUE STITCH in an attempt to find clear running, was unable to do so and after the 100 Metres was checked when disappointed for running between that horse and MAGNIFIER. COME SEE YOU was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of COME SEE YOU after the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN CHANNEL, MAGNIFIER and STAY YOUNG were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 April 2004)
COME SEE YOU, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. COME SEE YOU was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer I W Allan yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be moving stiffly behind and have "jarred up" in both front fetlocks. Before being permitted to race again, COME SEE YOU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
