Racing Incident Report
FOREVER CHARMING, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly, got its head up and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. SMILEY WIN was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, AMITY and SUPERSONIC were checked when crowded for room between HEALTHY HEART which was carried out slightly by MUNDAHISH which at this time had its head on the side and shifted ground and SEA CORAL (W M Lai) which shifted in whilst being ridden along when not clear. In the circumstances, W M Lai was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. Throughout the race, NEWSWIRE hung in and after the 600 Metres was unable to maintain its position between AMITY and WELL EXPRESS. On straightening, SEA CORAL lost its footing behind and became badly unbalanced. ACE OF PACE, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of SEA CORAL. Near the 200 Metres, ACE OF PACE raced tight inside ETERNAL START which at this time was inclined to lay in. F Coetzee (SUPERSONIC) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of FOREVER CHARMING, causing that horse to be checked and lose its rightful running. For this breach, F Coetzee was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 31 May 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday 16 May 2004. At the 150 Metres, HEALTHY HEART, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of MUNDAHISH which shifted out slightly. FOREVER CHARMING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FOREVER CHARMING after the race did not show any significant findings. SMILEY WIN and ACE OF PACE were sent for sampling.
