Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, SPECTACULAR HIT became fractious, lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. On jumping, SPECTACULAR HIT reared, struck its head on the partition above the barriers and as a consequence was slow to begin. Also on jumping, VENETIAN MASTER got its head up. BROWN BEAUTY was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between PORT OF HOPE and SUPER DANA which on jumping shifted out abruptly. In the middle stages, CUPID proved difficult to settle when racing behind SPECTACULAR HIT. Near the 1000 Metres, WAVY PEAK, which had shifted away from the rail to follow PORT OF HOPE, was then carried back in by CLAWS OF THUNDER. Near the 800 Metres, SUPER DANA was momentarily crowded for room inside JUST TOO GOOD which got its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 700 Metres, BROWN BEAUTY and JUST TOO GOOD were carried wider by CORNWALL CHIEFS which shifted to the outside of CLAWS OF THUNDER. In the Straight, BROWN BEAUTY hung in. HAPPY FORTUNE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of HAPPY FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. CORNWALL CHIEFS and HOT PRACTITIONER were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that PORT OF HOPE had sustained a laceration to the left hind leg.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 May 2004)
The Senior Veterinary Officer has today reported that HOT PRACTITIONER was noted to have a severe right front tendon and suspensory ligament injury. Before being allowed to race again, HOT PRACTITIONER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
