Racing Incident Report
When being led to the Start, GLORIOUS RHYTHM was kicked by the outrider's pony. After arriving at the Start, GLORIOUS RHYTHM was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. After the entire field had been boxed, a number of runners became fractious. Both FANTASTICO and CHAMP DE UNION broke through. FANTASTICO was quickly reined in, returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. When CHAMP DE UNION broke through, Apprentice M W Leung, the horse's rider, lost the use of his left stirrup which he was unable to regain for some distance. CHAMP DE UNION then completed the course before being able to be reined in. Acting on veterinary advice that CHAMP DE UNION was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. When these horses broke through, GOLDEN FARM also attempted to break through underneath the front gates of its stall. GOLDEN FARM was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GOLDEN FARM. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASTICO and CHAMP DE UNION will both have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. EASY PUNCH began awkwardly. QI'S PET was slow to begin. Near the 700 Metres, EASY KING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of HANDBAG FORTUNE which at this time when being ridden along got its head on the side and shifted in when barely clear. GREAT IDEA, which was following EASY KING, was steadied in consequence. Near the 500 Metres, GREAT IDEA became unbalanced and dipped. Making the Home Turn, HANDBAG FORTUNE hung out. Because of this, SHOGUN was carried wider. Just prior to straightening, FANTASTICO bumped the running rail. For the major part of the race, SHOGUN raced wide and without cover, then after the 400 Metres was bumped by EASY KING which shifted out. Over the concluding stages, HANDBAG FORTUNE hung in. G Mossé (SUPER BALL), which was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight and also racing with the blinkers removed said the horse did not show sufficient speed to be in a forward position. He said near the 600 Metres when GREAT IDEA shifted to the fence in front of him, SUPER BALL became unbalanced, then making the turn after the 600 Metres despite his riding was reluctant to hold its position inside GLORIOUS RHYTHM and lost further ground. He said in the Straight once balanced SUPER BALL closed the race off strongly when being ridden out. The explanation submitted by G Mossé was accepted. EASY KING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of EASY KING after the race did not show any significant findings. SHOGUN, FANTASTICO and GREAT IDEA were sent for sampling.
