Racing Incident Report
CLASSIC SOLO bounded in the air at the start. Shortly after the start, FAIRPLAY and EVERY TIME were tightened for room inside JOYFUL MASTER which shifted in after being bumped by GOODWOOD. In the early and middle stages, EVERY TIME proved difficult to settle. GOOD WIN made the Home Turn awkwardly. After the 200 Metres, AMBITION was momentarily steadied when crowded for room inside SWISS LAD which shifted in slightly. Also after the 200 Metres, GOOD WIN raced tight outside ARABIAN WAGER which was shifting out. G Schofield (AMBITION) said he had anticipated the horse travelling in about midfield. He said on the way to the Start and behind the barriers he made sure he gave AMBITION a good warm up. He said AMBITION jumped well and he rode along in the early stages to ensure he did not get too far back. He said making the turn near the 1000 Metres he found himself travelling comfortably on the back of the leader and he maintained that position throughout the race. He did say in his opinion AMBITION was not comfortable travelling inside other runners. A Delpech (ARABIAN WAGER) said in a discussion he had had with Mr T K Ng, the trainer of the horse, prior to the race, it had been decided that if the pace was suitable he should lead, however, if horses which had drawn to his inside showed speed he should endeavour to take a sit behind them as ARABIAN WAGER was having its first race start for two months tonight and it was felt the horse would not finish the race off if it had to be ridden hard to lead. He said ARABIAN WAGER began well, he immediately went forward, however, SENSIBLE WAY was ridden to lead, therefore near the 1000 Metres he commenced to shift in to race beside that horse. He said however SWISS LAD which was also racing to his inside was ridden to maintain a position inside its heels, he therefore after the 1000 Metres steadied his mount to allow it to come back and travel more comfortably in the hope he would be able to obtain a position with cover behind SWISS LAD. Mr Ng explained last time ARABIAN WAGER raced over the course and distance, it was ridden hard to go forward into the lead and making the first turn became badly unbalanced and lost a plate. He said by issuing the instructions he did he wanted to ensure the horse did not repeat that performance. He said further when issuing those instructions he had anticipated both SENSIBLE WAY and SWISS LAD which had drawn inside ARABIAN WAGER to go forward. He said because of the pace at which tonight's race was run, he was satisfied with the riding of A Delpech. ARABIAN WAGER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ARABIAN WAGER after the race did not show any significant findings. SWISS LAD, SENSIBLE WAY and EVERY TIME were sent for sampling.
