Racing Incident Report
ONE STEP AHEAD was withdrawn on 15.6.04 with permission of the Stewards (family bereavement) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JOY FAY FAY (A Delpech). As the gates opened, DIAMOND CENTURY sat back, then bounded in the air, began very awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. NOBLE BOSS was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 900 Metres, DANHERO became unbalanced and was steadied when crowded for room between WINNING COUNTER and JOY FAY FAY which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. No action was taken. G Mossé (ALWAYS WELCOME) said he rode the horse in a forward position, however, it did not show enough pace to lead. He said in the Straight when placed under pressure ALWAYS WELCOME tired badly. He said in his opinion the horse raced "flat" tonight. He said the horse's poor performance could also be attributed to the fact the horse has risen sharply in the handicap. ALWAYS WELCOME was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of ALWAYS WELCOME after the race did not show any significant findings. GOLDEN CARE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLDEN CARE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. OUR JET and SNIPPEDYDOODA were sent for sampling.
