Racing Incident Report

UNIVERSAL CHARGER was slow to begin. STOIC, with the intention to be ridden in a rearward position today, got its head up shortly after the start when being steadied to shift across behind runners. Approaching the first turn, STOIC proved difficult to settle and got its head up when close to the heels of SPRINTER. Making the Home Turn, CHINOOK lay out. Over the final 200 Metres, SPRINTER hung in. For the major part of the race, OUT OF MY WAY raced wide and without cover. F Coetzee (PERPETUAL PLEASURE) explained it had been thought the horse would travel in midfield or behind as is usual. He said when he had ridden the horse previously, it had been reluctant to stride out in the early stages and because of this normally races behind midfield. He said today during its preliminary PERPETUAL PLEASURE again appeared to be a little restricted in its action and because of this he gave the horse a good warm up behind the barriers in the hope that it would jump well and thus prevent UNIVERSAL CHARGER and CHINOOK which were drawn outside him crossing him. He said PERPETUAL PLEASURE began nicely, he rode along for a short distance, the horse immediately travelled into the bridle and consequently ended up racing behind the lead in what was only a moderately run race. The explanation of F Coetzee was accepted. OUT OF MY WAY and REWARD were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of OUT OF MY WAY after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, REWARD, which finished tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, REWARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (DR WELL) attributed the horse's poor performance to racing up a class today from its last start win and the fact it was unable to obtain an uncontested lead when REWARD raced to its outside. DR WELL, PERPETUAL PLEASURE and DONGGUAN VICTORY were sent for sampling.
