Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was established the bit being worn by FORTUNE LIFE had been incorrectly fitted. This was rectified prior to the horse being boxed. Mr B K Ng, the trainer of FORTUNE LIFE, was fined $3,000 for negligently presenting the horse with incorrectly fitted gear. TOP PRIZE bounded in the air on jumping. LUCKY CHAMPION began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BEAR DOMINANCE. Shortly after the start, MY EGO was steadied away from the heels of PRIZE WINNER. At the 600 Metres, FORTUNE BOY got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped the running rail. After the 500 Metres, PRIZE WINNER, which was being carried back by MAGICAL LOT which was giving ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of MAGICAL LOT and tight inside MY EGO. BEAR DOMINANCE, which was following, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of PRIZE WINNER. At the 400 Metres, PRIZE WINNER was inconvenienced by GOLD FIELD which was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of MAGICAL LOT which continued to give ground. Near the 200 Metres, SHABU SHABU got its head on the side and shifted in, because of this R Fradd, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount. After this, SHABU SHABU continued to lay in. Over the concluding stages, TOP PRIZE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORTUNE LIFE and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. When questioned, W M Lai (FORTUNE BOY) said approaching the winning post the first time he had to steady his mount away from the heels of ALWAYS ZIETEN when that horse steadied in front. He said when he did this he had been racing to the inside of DR WELL, however, FORTUNE BOY at this time commenced to hang out and was reluctant to hold its position. He said after this FORTUNE BOY continued to hang out and on a number of occasions was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DR WELL, therefore he decided to steady his mount in an attempt to get it to settle better for him and this allowed DR WELL an opportunity to shift to the rail in front of him. PRIZE WINNER, MAGICAL LOT and MY EGO were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRIZE WINNER, MAGICAL LOT and MY EGO after the race did not show any significant findings. The performances of PRIZE WINNER, MAGICAL LOT and MY EGO, which all finished distanced, were considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, these three horses will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY CHAMPION, GOLD FIELD and SHABU SHABU were sent for sampling.
