Racing Incident Report
CORNWALL CHIEFS began badly and knuckled. DR WELL bounded in the air at the start. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TIRAMISU became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by NASA PEARL. After the 500 Metres, SMART HORSE was shifted in away from INSIDE MAIL which was giving ground. For the major part of the race, TEMMOKU raced wide and without cover. Apprentice H W Lai (TIRAMISU) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse which was having its first start over 1800 Metres today in around midfield in an attempt to ensure it ran the trip out. He added he was also asked to make his run on the outside if possible. He said in the middle stages having in mind his instructions he looked to his outside to see if there was an opportunity for him to shift away from the rail which he was able to do after passing the 600 Metres. He said over the concluding stages when the horse was closing the race off strongly, he was a little awkwardly placed inside the heels of FAT CHANCE which was shifting in. G Schofield (CORNWALL CHIEFS) explained after beginning only fairly the horse at no stage of the race travelled. He said at the 600 Metres he hit CORNWALL CHIEFS with the whip in an endeavour to have it go forward, however, there was no response from the horse. He did point out CORNWALL CHIEFS had only once previously raced on the surface which was its first career race start and its performance in that race was also poor. G Schofield said in his opinion CORNWALL CHIEFS did not appreciate racing on the All Weather surface. CORNWALL CHIEFS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of CORNWALL CHIEFS after the race did not show any significant findings. G Mossé (INSIDE MAIL) explained near the 1300 Metres the horse jumped a shadow on the track and became unbalanced. He said after this he rode INSIDE MAIL along for a short distance to make sure it concentrated properly. He said however as far out as the 600 Metres he became aware the horse was not going to figure in the finish as it was not responding to his riding. He said after the race he could not feel anything amiss with INSIDE MAIL and in his opinion it might not have run out the 1800 Metres of today's race. INSIDE MAIL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of INSIDE MAIL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of INSIDE MAIL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INSIDE MAIL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NASA PEARL and FAT CHANCE were sent for sampling.
