Racing Incident Report

On jumping, COSMO SUCCESS was bumped by NILOMETER which shifted in. As a result of this, COSMO SUCCESS shifted in and made heavy contract with DASH AHEAD. This caused both COSMO SUCCESS and DASH AHEAD to lose ground. SUPER WONGCHOY was slow to begin. Near the 1100 Metres, THE KING, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of DASHING CHAMPION which itself steadied away from the heels of KING OF FISH after getting its head up and proving difficult to settle. At the 1000 Metres, SUPER WONGCHOY was steadied after improving into an awkward position inside the heels of DASH AHEAD. Just prior to the winning post, FIGHTING MASCOT was steadied and unable to obtain clear running between KIDDYLAND and DASHING CHAMPION. Because of this, FIGHTING MASCOT was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Y Lerner (ELEPHANT DANCE), 5th placegetter, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. For this breach, Y Lerner was fined $20,000 [Rule 100(2)]. P Payne (BOLD WINNER) explained the intention had been to lead or if the pace was too strong to sit just behind the lead. He said when the gates opened BOLD WINNER was a little slow and began awkwardly, then FIGHTING MASCOT which had drawn to his outside immediately crossed him and as a consequence he got much further back than was intended. BOLD WINNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of BOLD WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. COSMO SUCCESS and KING OF FISH were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 November 2004)
BOLD WINNER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BOLD WINNER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BOLD WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
