Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC KING was slow to begin. SPEED OF LIGHT bounded in the air at the start. MY EGO began awkwardly. Near the 1000 Metres, RED FIREBALL was steadied away from the heels of SPEED OF LIGHT. Near the 900 Metres, MY EGO got its head up and raced ungenerously when awkwardly placed outside the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART. Near the 800 Metres, KING OF FIELD was checked to avoid the heels of BULLISH GENERAL which was steadied to avoid the heels of SWEETIE (Apprentice H W Lai) which at this time shifted to a position behind SUPER when not properly clear. In the circumstances, Apprentice Lai was severely reprimanded and told he must ensure he is properly clear of other runners prior to shifting ground. In the early part of the Straight, KING OF FIELD, which had been held up for running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of MY EGO to go forward. After the 400 Metres, ZU GUO STAR became unbalanced when bumped by BULLISH GENERAL. As a result of this, ZU GUO STAR shifted out and bumped MY EGO which also became unbalanced. For a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, BULLISH GENERAL was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed on the heels of SWEETIE which was giving ground. For the majority of the race, GOLD SANDFIELD raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of COURAGEOUSHEART, Trainer J Moore said the riding instructions had been consistent with those issued in all runs, that was to go forward and if necessary even lead. He pointed out COURAGEOUSHEART's last two starts had been at Happy Valley. He said in these races despite the efforts of the riders COURAGEOUSHEART had not been able to obtain a forward position. He did say he was satisfied with the manner in which COURAGEOUSHEART had been ridden in those races and in his opinion at this stage COURAGEOUSHEART appears to be clearly better suited racing at Sha Tin where it seems to be able to race in a more forward position. Mr Moore was unable to offer any other explanation for the improved performance of COURAGEOUSHEART and did say in the immediate future providing suitable races are programmed he will run COURAGEOUSHEART at Sha Tin. He did add however in time he hopes to be able to start the horse in longer distance races at Happy Valley. BULLISH GENERAL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, BULLISH GENERAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BULLISH GENERAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COURAGEOUSHEART and GOLD SANDFIELD were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ZU GUO STAR was distressed. Before being allowed to race again, ZU GUO STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
