Racing Incident Report
GREAT SENSATION proved difficult to settle in the early stages and after the 1900 Metres got its head up. In the early and middle stages, CAPABEL proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Making the Home Turn, GREAT SENSATION was carried wider by DEEP PURPLE. Rounding the Home Turn, ALAKAZAM was carried wider by CAPABEL. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether WADADELIGHT had had an unfair start. Evidence was taken from Mr P Waldron, Starter, O Doleuze, rider of WADADELIGHT, and Trainer T K Ng. The official videos of the start were also viewed. The evidence disclosed that after being boxed WADADELIGHT became fractious and reared, the horse briefly settled and the Starter effected the start. As this happened, WADADELIGHT again reared and on this occasion got its right front leg over the partition of the adjoining stall. As the Stewards were satisfied WADADELIGHT had created its own problems, they deemed the horse had not had an unfair start and as such it was declared a runner. As WADADELIGHT has proved difficult in the barriers on numerous occasions previously, WADADELIGHT will have to perform satisfactorily in a series of official barrier trials before being permitted to race again. D Holland (CAPABEL) said the horse was inclined to hang out throughout. He said CAPABEL was on the wrong leg and made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted out despite his efforts. He said after straightening CAPABEL got its head on the side and hung, then near the 50 Metres his whip which he had been using in his left hand became caught in the bit of ALAKAZAM which was racing to his outside. He said because of this he could not ride CAPABEL out to the end of the race. DEEP PURPLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DEEP PURPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. SPECTACULAR HIT and WATCHMAN were sent for sampling.
