Racing Incident Report
NOBLE GLORY was slow to begin and shortly afterwards bumped with LUCKY BIRD which shifted in. LA MERVEILLE was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between DANEPRINT and PAY-DAY which got its head on the side and shifted in. PLEASANT JOURNEY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped OPTIC FRIENDLY. Shortly after the start, PERFECT GALLANT was steadied away from the heels of PAY-DAY which shifted out after bumping with DANEPRINT. In the early stages, PAY-DAY proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Also in the early stages, PERFECT GALLANT proved difficult to settle and hung out. Near the 800 Metres, LA MERVEILLE was checked to avoid the heels of BEEP BEEP which lost ground. NOBLE GLORY, which was following, was checked in consequence. At this time, LUCKY BIRD was hampered and shifted wider to avoid the heels of NOBLE GLORY. On straightening, CHAMPION BOY was held up and unable to improve when racing tight inside SPEED WINNER and endeavouring to shift to the outside of the heels of PAY-DAY. A Delpech (FABULOUS) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of PERFECT GALLANT, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. A Delpech was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 9 January 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 1 January 2005. In addition, A Delpech was fined $60,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. After the 200 Metres, LA MERVEILLE got its head on the side and shifted out, then near the 150 Metres was shifted back to the inside of DANEPRINT into clear running. In the Straight, LUCKY BIRD hung in, after the 50 Metres shifted ground and bumped the hindquarters of FABULOUS which as a result became unbalanced and shifted out, causing LUCKY BIRD to be bumped and carried wider. Just prior to the winning post, CHAMPION BOY was struck over the nose by the whip of E Saint-Martin (DANEPRINT). For the major part of the race, PLEASANT JOURNEY raced wide and without cover. R Fradd (BEEP BEEP) explained his mount travelled comfortably in the early stages, however, approaching the 800 Metres he became concerned the horse might have bled. He said he looked own to see if blood was present at the horse's nostrils and at this time BEEP BEEP commenced to give ground. He said when he did not see blood present at the nostrils of BEEP BEEP, he then endeavoured to hold his position, however, the horse was reluctant to stride out. BEEP BEEP was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BEEP BEEP after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, B Prebble (NEW CENTURY) said in his opinion the horse was sore. NEW CENTURY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, NEW CENTURY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LA MERVEILLE, FABULOUS and DANEPRINT were sent for sampling.
