Racing Incident Report

Following the running of Race 2, KING OF FISH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was in a distressed condition in the holding stalls and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KING OF FISH. Before being allowed to race again, KING OF FISH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Stewards also directed KING OF FISH be sent for sampling. From the outside barrier, with the intention to be ridden quietly, GOLDEN CARE was immediately steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, FIGHTING MASCOT and HAPPY PARTNERS were crowded for room between ARMONDO which shifted in and FRUITY FRUITY which was carried out by DASHING CHAMPION. Also shortly after the start, when being shifted across behind runners, SUCCESSIVE GAINS clipped the heels of WHATABOB and blundered. When the pace steadied near the 900 Metres, ARMONDO got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of KROVANH. CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE, which was following ARMONDO, was steadied away from the heels of that horse. For some distance approaching and passing the 900 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION raced tight inside HAPPY PARTNERS (A Delpech). Near the 800 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION was unable to maintain its position on the inside of HAPPY PARTNERS which after being turned in continued to have DASHING CHAMPION tight on its inside. A Delpech was severely reprimanded and told in slightly different circumstances he might be found in breach of a serious rule and whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, there is a limit to how far one can go. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SUCCESSIVE GAINS became unbalanced when tight inside FRUITY FRUITY. Near the 100 Metres, COSMO SUCCESS, which was beginning to close the race off, became unbalanced after bumping the hindquarters of KROVANH which when giving ground was carried out slightly by SUCCESSIVE GAINS which when improving between KROVANH and FRUITY FRUITY was carried out slightly by that horse. In this incident, KROVANH also became unbalanced. HAPPY PARTNERS, which was racing outside COSMO SUCCESS, was steadied away from the heels of that horse. At the 100 Metres, FIGHTING MASCOT, which was closing the race off, was momentarily steadied when improving close to the heels of DASHING CHAMPION and tight inside WHATABOB. Over the concluding stages, SUCCESSIVE GAINS was carried wider by FRUITY FRUITY (C Soumillon) which continued to drift out. C Soumillon was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. FRUITY FRUITY and SUCCESSIVE GAINS were sent for sampling.
