Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, B Prebble, the rider of RAIDER, expressed concern over the horse's action. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was stiff in its action behind and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RAIDER. Before being allowed to race again, RAIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the 1300 Metres, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS was momentarily steadied away from the heels of HEALTHY WEALTHY which shifted in when barely clear. At the 400 Metres, RED PEPPER was shifted out to find clear running. After the 200 Metres, SUCCESSIVE GAINS became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside PALETTE NATURAL. At about the 50 Metres, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S CHOICE which drifted in. When questioned, G Schofield (LIBERAL'S CHOICE) explained making the Home Turn he shifted his mount out to be in a three wide position as in his opinion the ground towards the inside was beginning to show signs of wear. D Whyte (ART TRADER) explained the intention today with the horse carrying a light weight was to have it ridden in a prominent position. He said he was able to go forward in the early stages, however, was obliged to race three wide and without cover. He said despite this ART TRADER travelled comfortably but in the Straight gave ground. He was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's performance, but did say ART TRADER may be better suited ridden more quietly. ART TRADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ART TRADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ART TRADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREEN TREASURE and RIVER ESPERANTO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 May 2005)
After arriving at the Start, RAIDER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon because the rider expressed concern over the horse's action. He said at that time the horse was stiff in its action behind and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, RAIDER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. RAIDER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a painful back. As previously advised, RAIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
