Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, FLASHING STAR became fractious, broke through the front gates of its stall and dislodged C Munce, its rider. FLASHING STAR was recaptured near the 900 Metres and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said he noted blood to be present at the horse's right nostril and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FLASHING STAR. Before being allowed to race again, FLASHING STAR will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ABLE PRINCE began awkwardly. RAIDER was slow to begin. ABSOLUTE CHAMPION began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, RAIDER was checked to avoid the heels of SCINTILLATION which was checked severely when crowded for room between GREAT DELIGHT which was carried out by COUNTRY MUSIC and CLASSIC NAVIGATOR which shifted in away from NATURAL BLITZ. In this incident, GREAT DELIGHT became badly unbalanced behind. Also shortly after the start, OUR JET was crowded for room between BILLET EXPRESS and ABLE PRINCE. Over about the final 400 Metres, ABSOLUTE CHAMPION hung in. For the major part of the race, SCINTILLATION hung in. O Doleuze (BILLET EXPRESS) said he had been instructed to lead if the pace was not overly strong. He said BILLET EXPRESS began fairly, he allowed the horse to travel forward until about the 900 Metres, however, when it became apparent to him that ABLE PRINCE which had drawn to his outside was being ridden to go forward, he elected to steady his mount and take a trail behind that horse. He said BILLET EXPRESS travelled comfortably, but when under pressure hung in and was difficult to ride. He said in the past BILLET EXPRESS had shown its best form when racing with the rail. F Coetzee (COUNTRY MUSIC) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he trialed COUNTRY MUSIC on 27 August 2005 and in his opinion this trial was not overly impressive. He said he had not ridden COUNTRY MUSIC in its work since that trial. He said COUNTRY MUSIC was able to travel in a forward position in today's race as expected, however, failed to respond when placed under pressure after the 400 Metres. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of COUNTRY MUSIC, said following the horse's barrier trial on 27 August 2005 the horse had soreness over its rump and as a consequence he did not work the horse to ensure its recovery. He said COUNTRY MUSIC recommenced work in early September after being examined by his stable Veterinary Surgeon. He said COUNTRY MUSIC's work in the lead up to today's race had been satisfactory. The Stewards considered the performance of COUNTRY MUSIC to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, COUNTRY MUSIC will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COUNTRY MUSIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SCINTILLATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COUNTRY MUSIC and SCINTILLATION after the race did not show any significant findings. ABLE PRINCE and OUR JET were sent for sampling.
