Racing Incident Report
In the Parade Ring, the tongue tie fitted to BODACIOUS was dislodged. A tongue tie was replaced on BODACIOUS after the horse arrived at the Start. BUDDIES SPIRIT began awkwardly and then was steadied when tightened for room between DANEMAN HILL which shifted in and KING PALM which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by KAO AND MING which was a little slow to begin. ABLE MARS began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and was then checked to avoid the heels of BODACIOUS which shifted in after being bumped by CARE FREE PRINCE. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, KAO AND MING was checked away from the heels of CARE FREE PRINCE which was carried out by BODACIOUS which made the turn awkwardly and got its head up. After the 900 Metres, KING PALM hung in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CHOSEN ONE was steadied when crowded for room inside MUTUAL GAIN which shifted in after being bumped by KING PALM which at this stage again hung in. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, HAPPY ELITE was crowded for room inside SALUT BEAUTE. KAO AND MING made the Home Turn awkwardly when racing tight inside BODACIOUS and behind CHOSEN ONE which became unbalanced when racing tight inside MUTUAL GAIN. Throughout the race, BUDDIES SPIRIT raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, C Munce (KAO AND MING) said after following CHOSEN ONE he shortly after straightening shifted towards the inside of that horse. He said as he did this CHOSEN ONE commenced to drift in, he therefore at the 200 Metres steadied his mount and shifted it to the outside of CHOSEN ONE as he believed that horse would continue in and cause interference to KAO AND MING. He said after shifting out he commenced to ride along hands and heels and as he started to improve towards the outside of the heels of CHOSEN ONE, that horse then shifted out, causing him some inconvenience. He said CHOSEN ONE then shifted back in and he commenced to improve towards a run which was available between DANEMAN HILL and KING PALM, however, as he approached that run after the 100 Metres KING PALM drifted in slightly and he steadied KAO AND MING as he was of the opinion he was going to lose his running. He said KING PALM then held its line which resulted in running being available to him, however, as he was well beaten at the time he did not ride KAO AND KING out to the post. C Munce was severely reprimanded and told on this occasion in the opinion of the Stewards he had erred by not taking opportunities which were clearly available to him to fully test his mount in the Home Straight. He was further told when such opportunities exist, he must fully avail himself of them. CHOSEN ONE, HAPPY ELITE and SALUT BEAUTE were sent for sampling.
