Racing Incident Report

At the time of declarations, B Prebble was declared as both the rider of LIFELINE RAPIDE and SPINNING CITY. It was established B Prebble had a firm commitment to SPINNING CITY and as such permission was given for C Munce to be substituted as the rider of LIFELINE RAPIDE. For this declaration error, B Prebble was fined $2,000. LIFELINE RAPIDE and DILIGENT were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SIR ERNESTO and DON FELIPE were crowded for room between HARMONY which shifted in away from SUCCESSOR and FORTE which shifted out away from FLORAL PEGASUS which was initially carried out by ONE STEP AHEAD. An inquiry into the reason for PROFIT HILL (Apprentice P H Lo) and HARMONY (E Saint-Martin) falling and dislodging their riders near the 800 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed as Apprentice Lo was immediately taken to hospital. When PROFIT HILL and HARMONY fell, the following horses were checked in consequence: DON FELIPE, SPINNING CITY, SPLENDID SAILS and DILIGENT. At the same time, LIFELINE RAPIDE was steadied and became unbalanced. FORTE hung out in the middle stages and then hung in in the early part of the Straight. SIR ERNESTO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORTE rounding the Home Turn. When obtaining a run between FORTE and SUCCESSOR about the 300 Metres, DILIGENT bumped with FORTE, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. DILIGENT then shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of SUCCESSOR. After this, DILIGENT was inclined to lay in. Throughout the race, SUCCESSOR raced three wide in the lead without cover and got its head on the side and hung in when under pressure in the Straight. SUCCESSOR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SUCCESSOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained abrasions to the right stifle. FLORAL PEGASUS and SPINNING CITY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the trachea of DON FELIPE. Before being allowed to race again, DON FELIPE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ONE STEP AHEAD had bled from the right nostril and an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to be a bleeder.
