Racing Incident Report
RUSSIAN PEARL and PRIDE were slow to begin. MARAAHEL began awkwardly. As the gates opened, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. On jumping, GREEN TREASURE was crowded for room between WILLOW O WISP and EPALO. In the early stages, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN and RUSSIAN PEARL, both of which were proving difficult to settle, got their heads up. Making the Home Turn, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN (K Manning) endeavoured to shift to the outside of TOUCH OF LAND to obtain clear running, however, was unable to do so when VENGEANCE OF RAIN (A Delpech) held its line. As a result of this, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN and VENGEANCE OF RAIN raced tight for some distance. Both A Delpech and K Manning were told whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, they should ensure at all times that their elbows do not extend away from their bodies. After this incident, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN was shifted to the inside of RIVER DANCER to obtain clear running. Near the 350 Metres, WILLOW O WISP was steadied to avoid the heels of EPALO (A Starke) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Starke was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. K Fallon (WILLOW O WISP) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he shifted his mount out when insufficiently clear of ALEXANDER GOLDRUN, resulting in that horse being checked and losing its rightful running. K Fallon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 22 December 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was with immediate effect. In addition, K Fallon was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. At the 250 Metres, RIVER DANCER was checked when crowded for room between ALEXANDER GOLDRUN which was taken out by WILLOW O WISP and inside TOUCH OF LAND which shifted in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the concluding stages, PRIDE hung in. When questioned regarding MARAAHEL parading without its visor, part of the horse's declared gear, Sir Michael Stoute, trainer of the horse, explained he was unaware of the requirement to do so. The visor was fitted to MARAAHEL as the horse left the Parade Ring. Sir Michael Stoute was told if he returns to race horses in Hong Kong, he would be expected to ensure he complies with the regulation. VENGEANCE OF RAIN and PRIDE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported WILLOW O WISP had sustained an abrasion to the left hind leg.
