Racing Incident Report

LIAOBUQI was slow to begin and as a consequence raced further back than is usual. ELECTRONICS SPUR was slow to begin. SIR OCTAVIUS was slow to begin and then got its head up when being steadied as a result of crowding between CHAMPION KING and THOUSAND WINS. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, KIDDYLAND was steadied when awkwardly placed between FORTUNE WARRIOR and KING OF WIN which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. No action was taken. At the 1200 Metres, ELECTRONICS SPUR was steadied when crowded for room inside KIDDYLAND which itself was racing tight inside CHAMPION KING which when over-racing then got its head up, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of VITAL PATROL. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 600 Metres, LIAOBUQI was hampered and carried wider by CHAMPION KING (D Whyte) which at this time shifted to the outside of VITAL PATROL. D Whyte was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. F Coetzee (ELECTRONICS SPUR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of VITAL PATROL, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, F Coetzee was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 8 January 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of this suspension takes effect on Monday 2 January 2006, the day on which the suspensions incurred by F Coetzee at last Saturday's racemeeting were to expire. In addition, F Coetzee was fined $70,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays. At the 150 Metres, ELECTRONICS SPUR was steadied and shifted to the outside of FREEBIRD to obtain clear running. In the Straight, FREEBIRD hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, PARADIS raced wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (KIDDYLAND) explained he had followed FORTUNE WARRIOR in the run and on straightening when that horse shifted away from the rail he immediately endeavoured to improve on its inside where there was sufficient room. He said however KIDDYLAND did not quicken as he had anticipated and as he was endeavouring to obtain this run, FORTUNE WARRIOR drifted back towards the fence before he was able to establish rightful running. He said as a consequence KIDDYLAND was held up and unable to improve inside the heels of FORTUNE WARRIOR until after the 200 Metres when KIDDYLAND was shifted out. He did acknowledge that as a result of FORTUNE WARRIOR shifting in, there was available running to the outside of that horse, however, because of the commitment he had made to endeavour to obtain a run on the rail on straightening, he was not able to avail himself of the run on the outside of FORTUNE WARRIOR. When questioned, Y T Cheng (FORTUNE WARRIOR) said he had been instructed from barrier 1 to obtain a good position on the rail somewhere about midfield if possible. He said after being crossed by FREEBIRD in the early stages he maintained a position behind that horse. When questioned about FORTUNE WARRIOR racing further forward tonight, Mr T W Leung, trainer of the horse, said his instructions in all the horse's recent runs have been to find the rail if possible and not to expose the horse too early to ensure it finished its race off. He said when the horse had drawn wide, this meant it raced in a rearward position to ensure it was not left racing without cover. He said last start FORTUNE WARRIOR travelled further back than he had hoped and his instructions on that occasion had been to be about midfield if possible. Mr Leung was told where possible it is expected horses trained by him will be ridden in a consistent manner. FORTUNE WARRIOR and ELECTRONICS SPUR were sent for sampling.
