Racing Incident Report
MAGNIFICENT began awkwardly and lost ground. KIWI DASH was slow to begin. On jumping, JOY AND TREASURE was crowded for room between DANEPRINT and PREMIER BURG, both of which shifted ground. At the 1600 Metres, RISING WIN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DASH FOR VICTORIES. At the 1400 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SWEETIE which shifted in when barely clear. At the 700 Metres, KIWI DASH was steadied away from the heels of LA MERVEILLE. After the 400 Metres, KID GALAXY was steadied and shifted to the outside of NOBLE ZOOM in an attempt to find clear running. KID GALAXY then for some distance had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted to the outside of PREMIER BURG near the 300 Metres. When KID GALAXY shifted to the outside of PREMIER BURG, LA MERVEILLE, which was following and beginning to close the race off, was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 300 Metres, KIWI DASH was shifted to the outside of DEFLECT to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, DEFLECT raced wide and without cover. DEFLECT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, it was noted DEFLECT was making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a dorsal displacement of the soft palate. WISHING WELL and SPEED OF LIGHT were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 December 2005)
DEFLECT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise and an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a dorsal displacement of the soft palate. Before being allowed to race again, DEFLECT will now be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
