Racing Incident Report
When being led to the saddling stalls, GIANFANTI kicked out and made contact with a bush. The horse was then saddled and entered the Parade Ring where it was noted to have sustained an injury to the left hock. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GIANFANTI. Before being allowed to race again, GIANFANTI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, B Prebble, the rider of SAINT THOMAS, expressed concern over the horse's action. SAINT THOMAS was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse had a restricted action in front and was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SAINT THOMAS. Before being allowed to race again, SAINT THOMAS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. EGYPTIAN RA began awkwardly. KINGIFLY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ALINSKY. As a consequence, KINGIFLY lost ground. On jumping, HIGHLILLI and ROYAL DECREE bumped. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, EGYPTIAN RA, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and raced ungenerously, then near the 700 Metres shifted in and caused some inconvenience to KINGIFLY which was racing on its inside and hanging out. In the Straight, ALINSKY hung out, after the 400 Metres shifted ground and caused some inconvenience to ACHIEVER which was giving ground. Throughout the race, CLASSA FOR EVER raced wide and without cover. When questioned, G Schofield (ACHIEVER) explained throughout the race ALINSKY had been ridden to hold a position to his inside about three quarters of a length behind him. He said passing the 600 Metres he momentarily lost sight of ALINSKY and thought he might have been sufficiently clear of that horse to cross to the rail. He said to ensure he was properly clear of ALINSKY, he looked to his inside and when he saw that horse maintaining its position he continued to race one horse off the fence. E Saint-Martin (WIN AGAIN) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in the lead or at least in a forward position. He said after being boxed WIN AGAIN became fractious, when the gates opened began awkwardly and lost ground. He said in the early stages he rode WIN AGAIN along vigorously in an endeavour to have the horse race in a more forward position, however, throughout the race WIN AGAIN raced at the rear, then after straightening when placed under pressure closed the race off nicely. WIN AGAIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WIN AGAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. ALINSKY and KINGIFLY were sent for sampling.
