Racing Incident Report
SUPER BROSE, 2nd Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 16.1.06 by order of the Stewards (retirement). On jumping, NOBLE MAN blundered. From the outside barrier, with the intention of being ridden quietly, KINGIFLY was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners, then near the 1000 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FORTUNE SMILES which shifted to the inside of YELLOW DIAMOND which at this time was shifting in. In this incident, FORTUNE SMILES was also steadied. Shortly after the start, ENGINEERING WONDER and RICH DRAGON were steadied when crowded for room between YELLOW DIAMOND and DOWN TOWN, both of which shifted ground. At the 500 Metres, SUCCESSOR shifted in, made contact with FANTASY, then shifted out and bumped FLYING SPRINTER. Near the 100 Metres, FANTASY was steadied when awkwardly placed between SHADOW KNIGHT and SUCCESSOR which got its head on the side and shifted in. Over about the final 50 Metres, FANTASY and FLYING SPRINTER raced tight inside the heels of YELLOW DIAMOND which drifted in. Because of YELLOW DIAMOND shifting in, O Doleuze, its rider, about 20 Metres from the line stopped riding and straightened his mount. For the major part of the race, CHATEAU KING PRAWN, NOBLE MAN and FLYING SPRINTER raced wide and without cover. C Soumillon (DOWN TOWN) said the horse was fractious in the barriers and reared on two occasions. He said on the second occasion it momentarily had its right front leg caught over the front gates of its stall. He said DOWN TOWN then began well, however, the intention had been to ride the horse with some cover and as it immediately commenced to over-race, this was not possible. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres DOWN TOWN was carried wider by CHATEAU KING PRAWN, the horse then continued to over-race in the middle stages. He said making the Home Turn he was carried wider by ENGINEERING WONDER which shifted out. He said because of the manner in which DOWN TOWN had travelled it failed to finish the race off. Before being allowed to race again, DOWN TOWN will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Following the race, SUCCESSOR, which tailed out, collapsed. DOWN TOWN, SHADOW KNIGHT and YELLOW DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
