Racing Incident Report

LUCKY KING began awkwardly and lost ground. When the gates opened, TOP HONOR bounded in the air and lost ground. SUPREME GAINS bumped the outside gate of its stall and was slow to begin. Near the 1400 Metres, EVER KING, which was racing ungenerously, was checked when crowded for room inside WINNING REWARD (C Soumillon) which after being crossed by BRAVE KNIGHT when barely clear got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. C Soumillon was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. After the 600 Metres, EVER KING became unbalanced when disappointed for running between WINNING REWARD and FAIR WIN when attempting to shift to the outside of WINNING REWARD. Shortly afterwards, FAIR WIN was steadied away from the heels of I'M NO SQUARE. After the 400 Metres, POCKET MONEY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BRAVE KNIGHT which commenced to give ground. At the 350 Metres, BOUNTIFUL was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between POCKET MONEY and EVER KING which at this time shifted in. Near the 200 Metres, EVER KING was checked away from the heels of I'M NO SQUARE which was giving ground. For some distance after the 200 Metres, BOUNTIFUL raced in restricted room inside TACTIC KING and outside the heels of I'M NO SQUARE which was continuing to give ground. When questioned, Apprentice C W Wong (BRAVE KNIGHT) said he had been instructed to go forward on his mount, if the pace was not strong to lead and then allow the horse to relax. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode along to go forward and cross to the fence after the 1400 Metres, then attempted to steady. He said when he did this I'M NO SQUARE travelled to his outside and HONEY MONEY was wider, however, those horses did not have sufficient pace to cross him and therefore he continued on in the lead. SUPREME GAINS and WINNING REWARD were sent for sampling.
