Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, ALIPES bounded in the air and lost ground. CRUSADER OF GOLD was slow to begin. On jumping, FIRST KNIGHT was bumped by OPERA MAGIC which shifted in and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between that horse and RAINBOW EXPRESS which shifted out after being bumped by SUPER HONEY. In the early stages, LUCKY CORDELIA hung in and travelled wide without cover. Near the 1100 Metres, ALIPES was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of RAINBOW EXPRESS which itself was close to the heels of EVEREST. After the 1100 Metres, EVEREST and CRUSADER OF GOLD were crowded for room inside SUPER HONEY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMBITIOUS MARJU shifted out abruptly after improving close to the heels of CARE FREE PRINCE. EVEREST had some difficulty obtaining clear running early in the Straight. From the 400 Metres until after the 200 Metres, RAINBOW EXPRESS was unable to improve when racing tight inside QUICK NEWS and behind OPERA MAGIC. Then after the 100 Metres, RAINBOW EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room between OPERA MAGIC and QUICK NEWS which was carried in by CARE FREE PRINCE (F Coetzee). F Coetzee was advised to exercise more care. After the 100 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between CRUSADER OF GOLD and OPERA MAGIC which was carried in by VICTORY CODE. Also after the 100 Metres, GLOBE RIVER was steadied when disappointed for running inside DANEMAN HILL. GLOBE RIVER continued to be unable to obtain clear running in the run to the line and as such was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Apprentice H W Lai (FIRST KNIGHT) explained after receiving interference shortly after the start he shifted his mount to the fence, the horse then did not travel as comfortably as he thought it would. He said he had to continually niggle at FIRST KNIGHT to maintain his position and as a consequence in the Straight the horse did not close the race off and in his opinion was disappointing. FIRST KNIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIRST KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY CODE and SUPER HONEY were sent for sampling.
