Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, VERY FIT, which had blood present at its mouth, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a slight laceration to its tongue and in his opinion was suitable to race. On jumping, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS was bumped by PALETTE NATURAL which shifted out. SYLLABUS began awkwardly. SIKANDER was slow to begin. At the 500 Metres, after shifting to the outside of FUJI SUNRISE, COSMO SUCCESS commenced to lay in and when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse which shifted out slightly broke down and was eased out of the race. At the 400 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied away from the heels of SYLLABUS which at this time was steadied and shifted to the outside of VERY FIT to obtain clear running. For some distance after this, PALETTE NATURAL continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, SIKANDER was held up and unable to improve. After the 300 Metres, INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS was bumped by LEILATI which when giving ground shifted out. Throughout the race, LEILATI travelled wide and without cover. The performance of ROOSEVELT, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ROOSEVELT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (LIBERAL'S CHOICE) said shortly after straightening SYLLABUS improved on his inside and when this occurred LIBERAL'S CHOICE was inclined to shift away from that horse. He said he then rode LIBERAL'S CHOICE along with the whip and the horse straightened up, however, when SIKANDER improved to his inside after the 200 Metres LIBERAL'S CHOICE again got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. He said when this happened he felt PALETTE NATURAL bump his mount from behind. As a result of bumping LIBERAL'S CHOICE after the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL became unbalanced. FUJI SUNRISE, SIKANDER and SYLLABUS were sent for sampling. Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on DAY OR NIGHT at the request of the trainer. He said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DAY OR NIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
