Racing Incident Report

WIN FOR ALL, which was fractious in the gates, bounded in the air at the start and then was taken across behind runners. On jumping, TAIJI SPIRIT and KAISER'S PRIZE came together, as a result of which TAIJI SPIRIT lost ground. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, TAIJI SPIRIT hung in. At the 400 Metres, SAND DANCE was hampered and carried wider by TAIJI SPIRIT (Apprentice K T Yeung) which at this time shifted to the outside of GAUCHO into clear running. In the circumstances, Apprentice Yeung was reprimanded. At the 300 Metres, Apprentice C W Wong (ELEGANT KING PRAWN) dropped his whip. At the 200 Metres, KINGS CROSS, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when disappointed for running between WIN FOR ALL and MULTI-WIN SPIRIT which was giving ground. Throughout the race, GAUCHO travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Apprentice K T Yeung was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the winning post. When questioned, O Doleuze (MULTI-WIN SPIRIT) said in the run to the first turn STRONG GAIN which had been racing to his inside held its position. He said to have ridden MULTI-WIN SPIRIT forward and crossed STRONG GAIN would have required him to make too much use of the horse which was having its first race start today. He said when SAND DANCE and GAUCHO went forward on his outside, he maintained his position, then making the turn at the 700 Metres MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was somewhat awkward and continued to race one horse away from the rail. O Doleuze was told his explanation would be reported and he was to ensure he at all times rode in a competitive manner. GAUCHO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GAUCHO after the race did not show any significant findings. STRONG GAIN and KAISER'S PRIZE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported BULLISH STAR had bled from both nostrils. Also after the race, it was noted MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer".
