Racing Incident Report

MARS was withdrawn on 29.4.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter QUALITY-QUALITY (O Doleuze). Before being allowed to race again, MARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SILVERBIRD and GOLD SANDFIELD were slow to begin. LUCKY PACKET, which was fractious in its stall, began awkwardly, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SILVERBIRD was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CRUSADER OF GOLD and GOLD SANDFIELD was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MYTHIC STEED. Making the Home Turn, GRABBIT raced tight inside SPEEDING MOLLY when endeavouring to shift to the outside of LUCKY PACKET. In the early part of the Straight, MYTHIC STEED had difficulty obtaining clear running between GRABBIT and GOLD SANDFIELD which at this time was being shifted out to go forward. Near the 300 Metres, W L Ho (SILVERBIRD) dropped his whip. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, GOLD SANDFIELD had difficulty obtaining clear running between SPARKLE and LUCKY PACKET. The performances of OPTIC KING and FRAMES DEPOT, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, OPTIC KING and FRAMES DEPOT will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, SPARKLE travelled in a forward position, however, was wide and without cover. B Prebble (PRESENT TREASURE) said before the race because what on paper appeared to be a lack of pace it was anticipated PRESENT TREASURE would be ridden in a forward position. He said in the past PRESENT TREASURE had shown itself not to be an easy horse to ride in a race. He said PRESENT TREASURE today began well, it soon became apparent to him that a number of runners on his inside were being ridden to go forward, he therefore did not ride PRESENT TREASURE along as he felt he would have to make too much use of the horse to cross. He said to avoid being caught wide he came back to a position behind GRABBIT where PRESENT TREASURE relaxed and travelled comfortably for him despite being further back than intended. He said PRESENT TREASURE finished the race off fairly. CRUSADER OF GOLD, QUALITY-QUALITY and GRABBIT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported GRABBIT had lost its left front plate.
