Racing Incident Report
At declaration time, H K Yim was declared as the rider of both WATCHMAN and GREEN IDEAL. It was established that H K Yim had a firm commitment to ride GREEN IDEAL. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice K L Chui to be substituted as the rider of WATCHMAN. For this declaration error, H K Yim was fined $2,000. On jumping, LUCKY KING got its head up and lost ground. Also on jumping, KING OF SPADES and AURELIAN bumped and BOREAS and WAIT FOR ME bumped. At the start, DANSOLDE was bumped by NICKU NICKU which shifted out. After the 1200 Metres, CRUSADER OF GOLD was hampered by GREEN IDEAL which shifted out after being steadied to avoid the heels of BOREAS (D Whyte) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Whyte was advised to exercise greater care. At the 300 Metres, KNIGHT TEMPLAR was checked when crowded for room inside GREEN IDEAL which when giving ground hung in badly. After this, GREEN IDEAL continued to hang in and again caused inconvenience to KNIGHT TEMPLAR after the 200 Metres. Over the concluding stages, WAIT FOR ME hung out. Throughout the race, AURELIAN travelled wide and without cover. S Dye (CYPRESS HILL) explained his horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said making the Home Turn he commenced to ride CYPRESS HILL along hands and heels, after the 400 Metres when he commenced to shift out to find clear running, he noted DANSOLDE had improved its position, he therefore was not able to continue outwards without causing interference to that horse. He said shortly afterwards running presented itself between CRUSADER OF GOLD and WATCHMAN and he rode along hands and heels to improve into that position, however, as he commenced to make ground, SOLAR POWER shifted out and caused some inconvenience to him. D Whyte (BOREAS) explained in his opinion the horse's poor performance was due to it when stepping up in distance over-racing and not relaxing in the early and middle stages. BOREAS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. GREEN IDEAL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BOREAS and GREEN IDEAL after the race did not show any significant findings. SOLAR POWER and WATCHMAN were sent for sampling.
