Racing Incident Report
GREAT FORTUNE was slow to begin, then on jumping threw its head about and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. CLASSIC HORSE got its head up on jumping and then was shifted across behind runners. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, A PLUS FIT failed to muster speed. From a wide barrier, LORD CAIRNS travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, BIG WINNER became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between SUNRISE LINING and MASTER DREAMER. FANTASTIC WIN, which was following, was steadied in consequence. For a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was unable to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, JADE DANCER was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of X-SPEED which shifted in slightly. After the 200 Metres, BIG WINNER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MASTER DREAMER. Throughout the race, CYPRESS HILL travelled wide and without cover. S Dye (A PLUS FIT) was fined $5,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks on the horse's right rump. Y T Cheng (SUNRISE LINING) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said as instructed he gave SUNRISE LINING a good warm up behind the barriers and then travelled in a forward position. He said SUNRISE LINING travelled comfortably in the run, however, when placed under pressure after straightening failed to respond to his riding. CYPRESS HILL, MASTER DREAMER and SUNRISE LINING were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CYPRESS HILL, MASTER DREAMER and SUNRISE LINING after the race did not show any significant findings. CLASSIC HORSE and FANTASTIC WIN were sent for sampling. The Stewards will seek an explanation from H K Yim, the rider of DRAGON INN, for initially weighing out without a girth.
