Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, FEEL-SO-GOOD, which made contact with the rail when leaving the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Also after arriving at the Start, D Nikolic, the rider of STEP TO WIN, expressed concern over the action of the horse during the preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PLENTY OF TALENT was slow to begin. STEP TO WIN began awkwardly and shortly afterwards got its head up when being steadied after being crowded for room between FEEL-SO-GOOD which was carried out by AMAZING WIN and PERFECT ATHLETE which shifted in after knuckling at the start. No action was taken. MARS was slow to muster speed. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, STEP TO WIN got its head up, commenced to hang out and shifted out abruptly across the heels of SMART FELLOW, causing RICH FOR ALL which was racing to its outside to be severely checked. The racing manners of STEP TO WIN were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, STEP TO WIN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, FEEL-SO-GOOD was steadied away from the heels of AMAZING WIN which itself steadied to allow PERFECT ATHLETE to cross to the fence. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, PERFECT ATHLETE hung out. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, AMAZING WIN was held up and unable to obtain clear running, then was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between SMART FELLOW and STAR OF FAME which shifted out slightly. At the 350 Metres, MARS, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the outside of PLENTY OF TALENT. After the 200 Metres, STEP TO WIN became unbalanced when momentarily hampered by ACTIVE VALOUR which shifted out. Over the concluding stages, SMART FELLOW got its head on the side and hung in, causing some inconvenience to STAR OF FAME. Because of the manner in which SMART FELLOW was racing, F Coetzee, its rider, stopped riding and straightened his mount near the 50 Metres. After this, F Coetzee continued to ride SMART FELLOW out whilst the horse again caused inconvenience to STAR OF FAME. F Coetzee was told to exercise care. ACTIVE VALOUR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ACTIVE VALOUR after the race did not show any signific
