Racing Incident Report

BIG KAHUNA was difficult to load. Being before allowed to race again, BIG KAHUNA will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. After being loaded into the barriers, HARRY HARRY repeatedly kicked the starting gates, resulting in the horse's left hind leg being caught between the back gates. HARRY HARRY was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HARRY HARRY. Being before allowed to race again, HARRY HARRY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MULTIMIGHTY began awkwardly. DANRIVA and NAMJONG MONEY were slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden quietly from a wide draw, A PLUS FIT was taken across behind runners. After being ridden along to maintain its position inside MYTHIC STEED passing the 1200 Metres, A PLUS FIT commenced to over-race badly and was checked off the heels of DANRIVA which itself was awkwardly placed on the heels of TELECOM TYCOON. A PLUS FIT then shifted out abruptly across the heels of CRUSADER OF GOLD, resulting in MYTHIC STEED being taken wider. A PLUS FIT was then allowed to go forward and raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. BIG KAHUNA, which was racing in blinkers for the first time today, commenced to over-race badly approaching the 1000 Metres and was checked off the heels of SOHNA for some distance. DANRIVA, which was following BIG KAHUNA, was checked off the heels of that horse in consequence, then shifted out and bumped CRUSADER OF GOLD. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the view that an incident had occurred at about the 100 Metres which cast doubt on whether NATURAL NINE should be declared the winner of the race. D Whyte, the rider of SOHNA, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against NATURAL NINE (G Mossé) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount at about the 100 Metres. The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that NATURAL NINE shifted out slightly near the 200 Metres, but did not make contact with SOHNA. NATURAL NINE, which was hanging out, again shifted ground outwards at the 100 Metres, making heavy contact with SOHNA which became unbalanced. As the Stewards were not comfortably satisfied, bearing in mind the margin of three quarters of a length between the two horses at the finish, that SOHNA would have finished in front of NATURAL NINE had the interference which did take place not occurred, the protest/objection was overruled. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. G Mossé was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out in this incident. When questioned, D Nikolic (ZONUS) said he was instructed by Mr J Moore, the trainer of the horse, that if the horse began well, he should endeavour to take up a forward position as it was felt had the horse been ridden back it would not have been able to make up ground in the Straight in what was expected to be a moderately run race. NATURAL NINE and SOHNA were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was performed on MULTIMIGHTY at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MULTIMIGHTY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
