Racing Incident Report
TOY QUEST and FORTUNE WARRIOR were slow to begin. CIRCULAR MACHINE was slow to begin, was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRIUMPH and after this travelled wide and without cover until the 800 Metres. From a wide barrier, BOOMING CITY was taken across behind runners. FORTUNE BOY was a little slow to begin and despite being ridden along failed to muster speed, then for the major part of the race hung out and on a number of occasions got its head up. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, DREAM HORSE got its head up and shifted out momentarily. When DREAM HORSE shifted back in, some inconvenience was caused to GALLANT FALCON. Near the 400 Metres, FORTUNE BOY steadied away from the heels of DON RICARDO. At the 200 Metres, SEASONS TREASURE was checked when crowded for room between FORTUNE WARRIOR (M Nunes) which when hanging shifted in away from TOY QUEST and VINTAGE GOLD which when giving ground was carried out by CIRCULAR MACHINE. No action was taken, however, M Nunes was advised to exercise care. In the Straight, FORTUNE WARRIOR hung in away from TOY QUEST and at the 50 Metres was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of that runner. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DREAM HORSE, Trainer A S Cruz said in recent starts over lesser distances DREAM HORSE had shown that it had lost the necessary speed to race in the lead where it had previously shown itself to be best suited. He said because of this it was decided to race DREAM HORSE over 1650 Metres tonight where it was felt the tempo of the race would allow the horse to obtain the lead. He said tonight DREAM HORSE after obtaining the lead was able to dictate the terms to suit itself and in his opinion this accounted for the horse's improved performance. When questioned, Y T Cheng (TRIUMPH) said passing the 1000 Metres he was racing in a two wide position with CIRCULAR MACHINE to his outside. He said TRIUMPH was relaxed when travelling in this position, however, shortly after entering the Back Straight he received some pressure from CIRCULAR MACHINE which had improved its position. He said when this occurred as TRIUMPH was relaxed he did not ride along to maintain his position and as a consequence CIRCULAR MACHINE shifted in to a position in front of him at the 800 Metres. Y T Cheng was told to ensure where circumstances permit he maintains his position. VISIONNAIRE and CIRCULAR MACHINE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VISIONNAIRE and CIRCULAR MACHINE after the race did not show any significant findings. DON RICARDO, DREAM HORSE and TOY QUEST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 January 2007)
VISIONNAIRE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. VISIONNAIRE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P O'Sullivan this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff action in front. Before being allowed to race again, VISIONNAIRE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
