Racing Incident Report
BALL OF FIRE was slow to begin, then shifted in and was checked away from the heels of DONGGUAN VICTORY. From the outside barriers, SILVERBIRD and HURRICANE WAY were taken across behind runners. Near the 1500 Metres, SILVERBIRD became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by HURRICANE WAY. O Doleuze (SPARKLE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he shifted his mount in when not clear of SILVERBIRD, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 10 May 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Tuesday 1 May 2007. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. Near the 1300 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE, which commenced to over-race, was checked to avoid the heels of MOSHI MOSHI (A Delpech) which shifted in when not clear. In the circumstances, A Delpech was severely reprimanded. Also near the 1300 Metres, SPARKLE was hampered and carried wider by SILVERBIRD which shifted out when being checked to avoid the heels of BALL OF FIRE which got its head up, commenced to over-race and was checked to avoid the heels of DONGGUAN VICTORY. No action was taken. At the 1000 Metres, BALL OF FIRE was carried to a three wide position when MOSHI MOSHI which was proving difficult to settle shifted out away from behind SABRE AND GOLD. After this, BALL OF FIRE continued to race without cover. Near the 800 Metres, HURRICANE WAY was steadied away from the heels of SILVERBIRD which itself was proving difficult to settle and was steadied away from the heels of MOSHI MOSHI. At the 600 Metres, DONGGUAN VICTORY became unbalanced when bumped by HURRICANE WAY which itself when proving difficult to settle became unbalanced after bumping with SPARKLE. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, JOY AND TREASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 200 Metres, BAYVIEW LAD was carried wider by SABRE AND GOLD which when improving towards a run outside FAIRPLAY was carried wider by that horse. Near the winning post, JOY AND TREASURE was awkwardly placed between FRAMES DEPOT and FAIRPLAY which was being carried in slightly by SABRE AND GOLD. Because of this, JOY AND TREASURE was not ridden out to the end of the race. G Mossé (BALL OF FIRE) explained his mount raced in a rearward position after being slow to begin. He said after being crowded for room passing the winning post on the first occasion, he then remained racing on the rail for a short distance, however, when JOY AND TREASURE suffered interference near the 1300 Metres, he shifted his mount away from the rail. He said when he did this he followed DONGGUAN VICTORY in a two wide position. He said after the 1200 Metres DONGGUAN VICTORY shifted to the rail and he gradually improved his position behind WINWIN COMBO, however, after entering the Back Straight MOSHI MOSHI shifted out from his inside which resulted in him being left three wide and without cover. He said because of this and bearing in mind the tempo of the race he allowed his mount to gradually improve its position. BALL OF FIRE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SPARKLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BALL OF FIRE and SPARKLE after the race did not show any significant findings. SABRE AND GOLD and FAIRPLAY were sent for sampling.
