Racing Incident Report

HURRICANE WAY was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between DENDRANTHEMA LOVE and CHINA SPORTFIELD which shifted out. DONGGUAN VICTORY was slow to begin. BAYVIEW LAD and LA MERVEILLE bumped on jumping. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, DONGGUAN VICTORY raced tight inside TOUCH DOWN which shifted in away from CHINA SPORTFIELD. Approaching the 1200 Metres, TOUCH DOWN was steadied away from the heels of DONGGUAN VICTORY which shifted out. At the 600 Metres, TOUCH DOWN was steadied when disappointed for running between DONGGUAN VICTORY and DENDRANTHEMA LOVE. Shortly after entering the Straight, BAYVIEW LAD was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of LA MERVEILLE which shifted to the outside of SUNRISE LINING into clear running. HURRICANE WAY, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence and then shifted in away from the heels of BAYVIEW LAD to continue going forward. BAYVIEW LAD had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200 Metres and then near the 100 Metres was shifted to the outside of LA MERVEILLE. Near the 50 Metres, HURRICANE WAY raced tight between WINNING PATTERN and SUNRISE LINING which was taken in by LA MERVEILLE which when being ridden out got its head on the side and shifted in. KING OF SHAVER hung in in the Straight. C K Tong (SUNRISE LINING) reported his saddle shifted back at the 400 Metres, placing him at a disadvantage. When questioned regarding the improved performance of KING OF SHAVER, Trainer J Moore stated he was advised by D Whyte, the rider of the horse at its most recent start on the All Weather Track, that on that occasion KING OF SHAVER had failed to handle the wet conditions. He stated the horse had not come out of the race with any veterinary issues and had pleased him in the lead up to tonight's race. He added in his opinion KING OF SHAVER had also benefited tonight by the drop back to Class 5. He stated at its most recent start he had advised the owners he believed KING OF SHAVER would perform well in the race as it had run well on the All Weather surface at its previous start. He said tonight having in mind its most recent failure, the horse was not strongly fancied by the stable even though it was stepping back in grade. D Whyte confirmed at its most recent start KING OF SHAVER had got its head up on a number of occasions during the race and in his opinion resented the kickback. Trainer Moore was reminded of the importance of having horses run consistently and now that KING OF SHAVER had established form, it would be expected to perform accordingly. When questioned regarding the performance of DENDRANTHEMA LOVE, a last start winner, S Dye stated he rode the horse similarly to its most recent start. He stated due to the fast tempo DENDRANTHEMA LOVE got a long way back in the race, however, passing the 800 Metres commenced to work into the race. He added when the field sprinted from the 600 Metres, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was unable to continue its run and over the final 150 Metres shortened stride and in his opinion was disappointing. TOUCH DOWN and DENDRANTHEMA were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOUCH DOWN after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF SHAVER and CHINA SPORTFIELD were sent for sampling.
