Racing Incident Report

SHATIN WIN WIN was withdrawn on 16.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SHATIN WIN WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When being weighed prior to the race, KAISER'S CHOIX became fractious and sustained a laceration to the right hind cannon. After arriving at the Parade Ring, KAISER'S CHOIX was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KAISER'S CHOIX. Before being allowed to race again, KAISER'S CHOIX will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ACCELERATOR and DELIGHTFUL WIN were slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, TRAVEL LEADER failed to muster speed and then in the early part of the Straight hung in. At the 200 Metres, LIMONCELLO, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between TREMENDOUS PLUS (D Nikolic) which when making ground shifted towards the outside of JOYFUL WORLD and WAIT FOR ME (Y T Cheng) which shifted in after initially being shifted in away from REWARDING STAR which was giving ground. In the circumstances, D Nikolic and Y T Cheng were reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After the 200 Metres, ACCELERATOR, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of PICTURE PERFECT to continue going forward. Throughout the race, REWARDING STAR travelled wide and without cover. C K Tong (GREAT HERO) explained from a wide barrier at the horse's last start, he had been asked to ride the horse around midfield with cover if possible. He said because of the manner in which the race was run, to avoid being caught wide, he was required to go further back than anticipated to obtain a position with cover. He said on that occasion GREAT HERO closed the race off fairly. He said today from a more favourable barrier he was asked to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position again with cover if possible. He said when KAISER'S CHOIX, the horse he considered to be a pace influence was withdrawn prior to the race, he anticipated he would race outside JOYFUL WORLD. He said GREAT HERO began fairly, he rode along for a short distance to ensure the horse obtained a forward position, when other runners did not show the anticipated pace, he was able to cross to the fence in the lead. He said he then endeavoured to steady GREAT HERO, however, the horse proved difficult to settle and when runners failed to cross, he continued on in the lead. Mr K L Man, trainer of GREAT HERO, confirmed the riding instructions issued to C K Tong and said in the past when the horse has been ridden along in the early stages, it has proved difficult to settle, therefore he believed the horse is best suited ridden with cover. He said he did not anticipate GREAT HERO leading in today's race and was surprised the horse was able to obtain such a position without being vigorously ridden to do so. He said prior to the race he had informed the owners of GREAT HERO that he believed the horse had a chance in the race, however, the betting support for GREAT HERO was not stable inspired. B Prebble (ELEGANCE LUCKY) was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of the horse. He said ELEGANCE LUCKY has had a breathing abnormality throughout its career and in his opinion this was not responsible for today's performance. He said ELEGANCE LUCKY travelled well until after the 800 Metres, however, in the Straight when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding. ELEGANCE LUCKY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ELEGANCE LUCKY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. He also said an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to be a "roarer" and showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ELEGANCE LUCKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIMONCELLO and REWARDING STAR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. Also after the race, LIMONCELLO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of REWARDING STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. GREAT HERO and JOYFUL WORLD were sent for sampling.
