Racing Incident Report

RIVER JORDAN was withdrawn on 29.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (wound to the right fore knee) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WHATABOB. Before being allowed to race again, RIVER JORDAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. During the preliminary, E Saint-Martin, the rider of SUPER TRAVELLER, was dislodged. SUPER TRAVELLER continued to the Start before being recaptured. As E Saint-Martin sustained an injury to his left ribs, he proceeded to the medical room. As such, SUPER TRAVELLER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. After arriving at the Start, A Delpech expressed concern over the action of HARB in the preliminary. HARB was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. A Delpech continued to not be satisfied with the action of HARB. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HARB. Subsequently A Delpech explained that the horse had worked only fairly at its most recent gallop and had subsequently been subjected to veterinary examinations including a clinical examination and the compulsory pre-race veterinary examination. A Delpech said at the trot the action of HARB was as of greater concern than when the horse was in a canter and it was for this reason that he did not wish to ride the horse. Before being allowed to race again, HARB will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REGENCY DRAGON was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between NOBLE HEART which shifted out and JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE which shifted in. Near the 1000 Metres, REGENCY DRAGON was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREAT GUY. At the 700 Metres, REGENCY DRAGON, ELEGANT WIN and SANZIRO were crowded for room inside ROYAL PERICLES (W M Lai) which had been racing wide and without cover and at this time shifted in. Shortly after this, ELEGANT WIN was steadied when crowded for room inside SANZIRO which again was carried in by ROYAL PERICLES. W M Lai was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. On straightening, ROYAL PERICLES was bumped and carried wider by WHATABOB which shifted out. C K Tong (NOBLE HEART), 5th placegetter, was reminded of his responsibilities to continue riding his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. Apprentice K L Chui (GREAT GUY) said when the horse was successful on a rain affected track at its most recent start, it was able to travel behind the lead and because of this did not have to face a lot of kickback. He said today GREAT GUY travelled further back than on that occasion due to not showing sufficient pace and as a consequence there was a considerable amount of kickback. He said GREAT GUY did not face the kickback and in his opinion today's poor performance was attributable to this. W M Lai said it was anticipated there would be strong speed in this race, therefore from a wide barrier he was asked to ride his mount with cover if possible. He said because of this in the early stages he allowed runners on his inside to go forward in the hope of obtaining a position in front of midfield with cover, however, at no stage was he able to shift in and because of this raced wide and without cover throughout. He said in the Straight ROYAL PERICLES gave ground. O Doleuze (ELEGANT WIN) and F Coetzee (MARIBEAU) said the performances of their horses were attributable to them not handling today's wet track conditions. GREAT GUY, ROYAL PERICLES, ELEGANT WIN and MARIBEAU was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ROYAL PERICLES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of GREAT GUY, ELEGANT WIN and MARIBEAU after the race did not show any significant findings. REGENCY DRAGON, BULLDOZER and LASER POWER were sent for sampling.
