Racing Incident Report

SCOOT DA LOOT began awkwardly and lost ground. GOAL KEEPER was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, COUNTRY MAGIC failed to muster speed. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PICKETT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of JADE DANCER (C K Tong) which shifted in when not clear. As the Stewards were satisfied C K Tong endeavoured to straighten his mount prior to causing the crowding, he was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. BOOMING CITY, which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of PICKETT. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, SCOOT DA LOOT hung out. Throughout the race, BE MY SONG travelled wide and without cover and at the 700 Metres was carried wider by DIM SUM which shifted out. At the 500 Metres, COUNTRY MAGIC, which was endeavouring to shift to the outside of DIM SUM, was steadied when disappointed for running between that horse and CHATER POWER. Passing the 400 Metres, BOOMING CITY, which was held up behind PICKETT, bumped the running rail when crowded for room inside JADE DANCER which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. At the 350 Metres, RICH DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of JADE DANCER which was being shifted out to relieve the pressure it had been applying to runners on its inside. For some distance after this, RICH DRAGON continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running. The performance of NOBLE TWINS, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE TWINS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice K L Chui (COUNTRY MAGIC) was not able to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said COUNTRY MAGIC did not show its normal speed in the early stages of the race and as a consequence settled in a midfield position. He said in the Straight COUNTRY MAGIC did not respond to his riding. COUNTRY MAGIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COUNTRY MAGIC after the race did not show any significant findings. BOOMING CITY and PICKETT were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported JADE DANCER had lost its right hind plate.
