Racing Incident Report

BOOM was fractious in the barriers, made contact with the front gates, resulting in the gates opening. BOOM then began awkwardly and lost ground. After this, BOOM was ridden to go forward, however, raced wide and without cover throughout the race and in the Straight gave ground. BOOM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BOOM after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BOOM was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BOOM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJI SUNRISE was slow to begin. Near the 500 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT was checked away from the heels of TOWERING FEELING. Making the Home Turn, SUPER TRAVELLER was checked away from the heels of BOOM which was commencing to weaken. ROYAL PERICLES and WALKONTHEWILDSIDE, which were following, were hampered in consequence. Shortly after entering the Home Straight, DON FELIPE raced tight between BOOM and SLOW WALTZ. HORACE’S CHOICE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 300 Metres, FUJI SUNRISE, which was held up for a run, was shifted in away from the heels of SLOW WALTZ in an endeavour to obtain clear running. WALKONTHEWILDSIDE shifted in while hanging in from the 250 Metres. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, SLOW WALTZ was checked away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT when held up for clear running behind that horse. Apprentice K T Yeung (HIGH INTELLIGENT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SLOW WALTZ, resulting in that horse being severely checked. Apprentice Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 22 October 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Straight, Apprentice K L Chui (BOOM) said passing the 400 Metres his mount commenced to give ground and to lay out and for this reason he applied pressure to the right rein to prevent BOOM from shifting out unnecessarily, causing interference to runners on his outside. He said when he did this, his right elbow became extended away from his body and may have made contact with the head of DON FELIPE which at this time was improving to BOOM’s inside. Apprentice Chui was warned against the practice of raising his elbows in races. RIVER JORDAN, SUPER TRAVELLER and HORACE’S CHOICE were sent for sampling.
