Racing Incident Report
After the 1400 Metres, UPSIDE OF ANGER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CONGRATS. Making the Home Turn, UPSIDE OF ANGER, which was giving ground hung out. At the 200 Metres, SOUNDS BEST was steadied and shifted to the outside of CONGRATS. After the 150 Metres, CRUSADER OF GOLD, which was making ground, was steadied and shifted to the outside of SOUNDS BEST. G Boss (SOCRATES) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position if possible. He said SOCRATES began fairly, he gave it a push to go forward, however, a number of runners went forward on his inside. He said in his opinion he would have been caught wide in what appeared to be a solidly run race, therefore he elected near the 1600 Metres to take his mount back to ensure it obtained a position with cover. He said as a consequence SOCRATES travelled much further back than intended. He said as in the past, SOCRATES tonight was reluctant to take up the bridle throughout the race and was most disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and riding of AGILITY. After some evidence was taken from G Mossé, the rider, and Mr S Woods, the trainer, the inquiry was adjourned for further consideration. AGILITY and SOCRATES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AGILITY and SOCRATES after the race did not show any significant findings. CONGRATS, NORTHERNER and WINNING REWARD were sent for sampling.
