Racing Incident Report
ARCH REBEL bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. EGERTON was slightly slow to begin. MACLEYA was slow to begin, then in the early stages travelled wide and without cover and after the 1400 Metres was permitted to stride forward to join the lead. When the pace steadied making the turn after the 1800 Metres, QUIJANO commenced to over-race and when being steadied away from the heels of DOCTOR DINO shifted out, causing some inconvenience on its outside to EGERTON. After this, QUIJANO continued to prove difficult to settle. After the 1200 Metres, RED ROCKS was left racing wide and without cover. Prior to the 800 Metres, EGERTON became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of KOCAB. Prior to straightening, QUIJANO was steadied and shifted to the outside of EVER BRIGHT. On straightening, HAWKES BAY was steadied and shifted to the inside of VIVA MACAU to obtain clear running. O Peslier (DOCTOR DINO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he shifted out when not clear of DYLAN THOMAS, causing that horse to lose its rightful running, be checked and blunder. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for O Peslier’s licence to ride in races to be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 20 December 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension commences with immediate effect. In addition, O Peslier was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Over the concluding stages, RED ROCKS hung in. In the run to the line, DYLAN THOMAS had difficulty obtaining clear running between EVER BRIGHT and EGERTON. Because of this, DYLAN THOMAS was not ridden out to the winning post as it normally would be. B Prebble (VITAL KING) explained his mount travelled satisfactorily until the 800 Metres in a three wide position with cover. He said shortly after the 800 Metres when he commenced to ride VITAL KING along, the horse failed to respond to his riding. He said on straightening he felt something might be amiss with VITAL KING because of the manner in which it was racing and because of this he did not ride the horse out. VITAL KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, VITAL KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of VITAL KING, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VITAL KING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. J Murtagh (DYLAN THOMAS) explained the horse at its last start was slow to begin, however, today lost more ground at the start than is usual. He said after being slow to begin he rode DYLAN THOMAS quietly to ensure the horse would not over-race, however, it was not suited by the slow tempo today. DYLAN THOMAS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DYLAN THOMAS after the race did not show any significant findings. DOCTOR DINO and QUIJANO were sent for sampling.
