Racing Incident Report
EXPRESS WIN bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. VISIONARIO was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground as a result of being checked when crowded for room between STOLEN THUNDER and NEVER LOOK BACK which was carried in by JACKPOT DELIGHT (D Beadman) which on jumping shifted in and then continued to shift in further. D Beadman was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. In the early stages, GREEN BIRDIE was taken across behind runners. Approaching the 1000 Metres, ISLAND SUPER was crowded for room inside HIGH POINT which shifted in momentarily. Approaching and making the turn at the 800 Metres, JACKPOT DELIGHT proved difficult to settle, hung out and near the 700 Metres shifted out to race without cover. At the 500 Metres, HORACE’S CHOICE was steadied away from the heels of HELENE MASCOT. At the 250 Metres, AMBITIOUS GENERAL was checked when crowded for room inside GREEN BIRDIE (O Doleuze) which when being ridden out shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. In the Straight, LUCKYME hung in. B Prebble (NEVER LOOK BACK) was not able to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said NEVER LOOK BACK travelled comfortably in the lead at a tempo to suit, however, when placed under pressure after straightening did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. He did say during the race and following the race NEVER LOOK BACK appeared sound in its action to him and there did not appear to be anything amiss with the horse. NEVER LOOK BACK was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. LUCKYME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NEVER LOOK BACK and LUCKYME after the race did not show any significant findings. HELENE MASCOT and HORACE’S CHOICE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported HORACE’S CHOICE had finished distressed. Before being allowed to race again, HORACE’S CHOICE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
