Racing Incident Report
QUALITY-QUALITY was withdrawn on 12.6.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right eye ulcer) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter QUEST FOR LOVE. As previously advised, QUALITY-QUALITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. VIKING TOR was slow to begin and then took time to muster speed. MERIDIAN PRIDE was slow into stride. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE failed to muster speed. After the 800 Metres, VIKING TOR raced tight inside ENCHANTED. On straightening, QUICK TOUCH was shifted to the outside of LUMINOUS to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, VIKING TOR had some difficulty obtaining clear running. In the Straight, FOREST FOUNTAIN hung in badly and proved difficult to ride and then after the 100 Metres improved close to the heels of ENCHANTED. Throughout the race, LUMINOUS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Beadman (MERIDIAN PRIDE), placed 9th, said approaching the winning post WEI HAI INVINCIBLE commenced to drift in when not clear of him. He said because of this he steadied MERIDIAN PRIDE away from the heels of WEI HAI INVINCIBLE and when he did this his mount made an abnormal breathing noise. He said after this he rode MERIDIAN PRIDE out hands and heels to the line. D Beadman was told whilst the Stewards accepted WEI HAI INVINCIBLE was drifting in at this time, he nonetheless must ensure his mounts are fully tested where circumstances permit. M Du Plessis (SUPER BABY) explained because of the rail being in the C+3 position, it was intended to ride the horse further forward than is usual if possible. He said SUPER BABY was slow to begin, as a consequence travelled further back than intended, did not handle today’s track conditions and in his opinion raced “flat”. SUPER BABY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER BABY after the race did not show any significant findings. QUICK TOUCH and WEI HAI INVINCIBLE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 June 2008)
The Veterinary Officer reported that QUICK TOUCH was this morning found to be lame in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, QUICK TOUCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination
