Racing Incident Report

NOBLE DE BEST and SUPER BABY were slow to begin. On jumping, TRULLI, which had been slow to begin, was steadied when crowded for room between FINGERS CROSSED and WADADELIGHT. Also on jumping, CIRCUIT HERO was bumped by BERIO. In the early stages, from a wide barrier, CIRCUIT HERO was taken back in an endeavour to find a position with cover, then proved difficult to settle. Also in the early stages, ROCKET POWER proved difficult to settle. Near the 1200 Metres, SUPER BABY bumped TRULLI, became unbalanced and lost ground after being carried in by CIRCUIT HERO (K T Yeung) which shifted in when not properly clear. K T Yeung was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. MASTER ELITE, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PRESTO was tightened for room inside CIRCUIT HERO. At the 700 Metres, CIRCUIT HERO was bumped and carried wider by PRESTO which shifted out. After this, CIRCUIT HERO, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was allowed to stride forward. After the 600 Metres, ROCKET POWER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT SUPREME. On straightening, ROCKET POWER, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted out. At the 200 Metres, the whip of H W Lai (THUNDER DANCING) was knocked from his hand by the whip of B Prebble (BERIO). Just prior to the winning post, GREAT SUPREME, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of CIRCUIT HERO. K T Yeung explained after the 600 Metres he looked to his inside on several occasions to ensure he was clear of other runners and was not causing any inconvenience as he heard other riders calling. When questioned regarding the performance of GREAT SUPREME, Y T Cheng said he had only ridden the horse on one occasion in preparation for today's race and he felt this work was satisfactory. He said GREAT SUPREME travelled comfortably in the run, responded fairly to his riding in the early part of the Straight, however, its run finished at the 200 Metres. He said GREAT SUPREME, which was racing first up from a knee injury today, might derive benefit from today's race. MERIDIAN PRIDE and GREAT SUPREME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MERIDIAN PRIDE and GREAT SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. PRESTO and BERIO were sent for sampling.
